Groungbreaking - Aug. 8, 2009
We have reached a milestone - breaking ground for our first community garden. And we have done it in an incredibly short time.
A community garden is first and formost a community. A community shares a vision and works together toward a common goal. Don and Jacky had the idea to start a community garden in February, and presented it to a few people in a coffee shop (they turned up the musak to drive us out as I recall). From that first meeting, we have grown to a real gardening community, now with our real garden, and more in our future./p>
I want to thank all the volunteers, Pleasant Valley Mutual Water Comany, Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park Dept., all the businesses who have contributed goods and services, and the members of the community who have come foward to aid us in our quest. Without us all working together, this would not have come to pass.
Thank you all,
Mike Taylor, presiden Camarillo Community Gardens
We have photo galleries! See the news page for links to galleries of each days' work, and check out the videos!

Jackie and Don started the idea because they wanted a garden for Ruby and Piper

A handful of volunteers have worked tirelessly for 5 months to get to this day.
Shown in photo:
(front) Piper, Shella, Ruby
Flanking the girls, in pink, Judy and Sheila
(rear) Pat, Helen, John, Jackie Don (in hat) Lenna, Mike, Eileen, Carol and (hidden) Robert, and Carl

With the generous support of the Board members and personnel of Pleasant Valley Mutual Water Company (left in photo), we have a quarter acre site for Camarillo's first public community garden. Not present in the previous photo are Amy (big smile, Amy!), Jennifer and her mom and dad Robert the Tall.

Board members from the PVMWC, Cammarillo Community Gardens and some of first tenants help celebrate the day.
Yes, the young ladies also garden. They are not just mascots, they are members, too! They are also our future.

We all strike our best American Gothic poses. Eat your heart out, Norman Rockwell!

Savoring the moment, or already planning a garden?

Rightfully proud of their part in making this day come true, Pat and Eileen are ready to start.
On your mark, get set, garden!

Say 'PEAS!"
